Peace Warrior
Winner of the 2009 Gemini Award for Best Biography Documentary
He went to Afghanistan to make peace. He came home fighting for his life after a horrific axe attack that shocked all of Canada. Peace Warrior is the exclusive, moving story of Captain Trevor Greene’s dramatic struggle to recover from the devastating injury and rebuild his life.
Initially, doctors predicted he would never emerge from his coma, would never speak and should just be placed in a long-term care facility. But Trevor’s fiancee Debbie categorically refused to accept the bleak prognosis, and the documentary is testament to the amazing combination of Trevor’s determination and Debbie’s faith in him.
For more than a year, Trevor and Debbie, their family and friends allowed cameras to document Trevor’s journey through an intensive brain injury rehabilitation program in Alberta. The resulting hour-long film is both an illuminating study of brain injury recovery, and a deeply moving love story.
Directed by Sue Ridout, written by Sue Ridout and Helen Slinger, produced by Sue Ridout and Sara Darling. Story Consultant Clare MacIntyre. Director of Photography John Collins, Editor Tim Wanlin, Music Composers Edward Henderson and Anne Leader.
